I obviously don't know anything about OP's range.

In the U.S., rental guns at shooting ranges typically do not get maintained as they should.
It's a function of time investment and profit.

A few points first -
1) When I say "we" in firearm usage, I mean the US gun culture in general, not US law enforcement in specific.
2) Different types of guns have different expected durabilities.  For example, an O/U shotgun is much more durable than a 357 Sig service pistol.
3) The rate of shooting matters.  There is a difference between shooting 100 rounds per day vs shooting 700 rounds in one day per week.  Shooting large amount of ammo in a short amount of time increases wear.

With that said, here are the trends in the U.S. from what I can see:

An average competition shooter will shoot more rounds than an average cop.
It is not uncommon for a professional competition shooter to shoot over 100,000 rounds per year.  Many professional shooters train 3 to 5 times per week, shooting 500 to 1,000 rounds per training session.  I read an interview of a professional shooter who said he shoots approximately $80,000 dollars worth of ammo per year - that is probably more than 250,000 rounds per year. Obviously his sponsors paid for those ammo.
An average street cop shoots between 1,000 to 1,500 rounds per year (250 rounds every 3 months for qualification).  A SWAT officer probably shoots between 1,000 to 1,5000 rounds per month, more if fully automatic weapons are used.  Our SWAT team trains once a month, and each officer shoots about 1,000 rounds during each training session.  These numbers do not take into account personal recreational shootings an officer may do.

Range rental guns can average more than 100,000 per year.  Before the ammo shortage this past year, a range officer from a popular local range told me that their rental Glock 17 averages 10,000 a month.
